And of course in recent years the gif has taken over – I won’t get into whether I pronounce it with a hard or soft G because that way lies madness. But I will share with you some of my current favourite adorable/hilarious animal gifs.

I didn’t mention this in my 2018 So Far blog post the other day, because I decided he needed a post of his own.
On February 7th, my beautiful little niece Aislynn…
…became a big sister! I now have an adorable little nephew too.
His name is Bowen and he is absolutely adored by everyone, especially his big sister.
You might have noticed that I didn’t follow up my “So that was 2017…” blog post with my usual “…and this is 2018” post. Or any post at all actually.
At the turn of the new year, I was very happily loved up in a new relationship and a little distracted from absolutely anything else at all. Unfortunately that relationship failed at the end of March, but 2018 moves on. It’s very nearly halfway through the year and I still haven’t posted my new year post, or anything else.
I have lots of ideas for posts, as always. And I quite often have little oomph to actually post anything, as always. I’ll try my best. And I can start that best by writing about my plans for 2018.
Surviving. That’s my main goal for most years. I do it, but it’s a real struggle. Every day is a struggle. Sometimes getting out of bed feels like climbing a damn mountain. Most days actually. I struggle to get out of bed, and I struggle to get anything done other than throw myself into my crafts.
Which leads me to my second plan for the year. To continue my learning to draw. Here are a few of my recent pieces…

It also occurred to me a month or so ago that I completely forgot about my yearly challenge. So this year I am doing a half-yearly challenge. I narrowed down a few options, and put a poll out on some social media asking people to pick a number between 1 and 4. They didn’t know what the options were, but I had these written down…
1) Write a blog post every day.
2) Turn a cloud into a drawing every day.
3) Knit a mini alien every day.
4) Make an origami something every day.
As the votes were coming in I realised that 1 mini alien a day is an awful lot of mini aliens. Even though they’re one of my best sellers at school fairs, that really is a lot of mini aliens, so I changed the challenge to 2 a week. Which is just as well, because that option won by a landslide.
My original plan was to start in June, but it was only yesterday that I realised that June is not the start of the second half of the year. July is.
And so, for my Slightly-More-Than-Half-Yearly Challenge I will be knitting 2 mini aliens a week.
Normally at this time of year I do a round up post. I write about how the year went and about how well I did with the goals I set myself last year. It’d be a shame to break with tradition.
Here is how 2016 went for me. Not so good. 2017 has been a lot worse in some ways, and a lot better in other ways. Globally the world is still going to shit. Physically my body is falling apart. I busted my ankle in March – complete with an avulsion fracture. Then a few weeks ago I busted my OTHER ankle too. My IBS hasn’t improved… hasn’t gotten worse either though.
On the family front there have been ups and downs: long periods of not talking to some people, a couple of tragedies, and some fantastic news.
My store hasn’t really done well either. I was struggling with depression during the spring/summer and didn’t do any fairs. I decided to take the year off entirely and not do any Christmas fairs either. Changed my mind in November and booked about six, only to bust my ankle a few days before the first one. I’ve had a few sales though, including a couple of custom orders. And I’ve been trying to blog.
The blogging, you might have noticed, has not been going so well on the store front or the personal front. For most of the year I haven’t had much motivation, and for the last couple of months I’ve been a bit distracted.
Which brings me to the big news of 2017.
I started the year single and lonely, but I’m ending the year happy and mushy and loved up. And loved. Gareth is funny and caring, and nerdy and smooth. And he’s all mine 😀
And what of my goals for the year? Well the 10×10 games challenge lasted a few months, until I had access to more games and got sidetracked. That one kinda relied on other people too, and the gang preferred playing a wider range.
Finishing off some of the blankets I had in progress was kinda voided by the new blankets I started. I still have over a dozen on the go.
I’ve already mentioned how the IBS and store improvement went. And cutting my to do list went well, although I stopped keeping track of it sometime in September.
So yeah, it’s been an up and down year. Ending on an up. Thanks to Gareth and my friends I’m ending the year feeling happy and loved and positive. I’m looking forward to 2018. For the first time in a LONG time I’m looking forward to the future.
I’m looking forward to spending more time with Gareth, and with my friends. I’m looking forward to seeing my three year old niece Aislynn grow even more. She’s a wonderful, vibrant, delightful child and she’s such a joy to be around. And I’m looking forward to meeting my second niece/nephew that’s due in February.
I’m not sure about the global landscape, but 2018 is going to be a good year for me 🙂
